Tyso n's First Day of 1st Grade

Oh the excitement was all over our house this beautiful morning. Tyson started his first day as a BIG first grader. He got up without me having to drag his body off the bed, was dressed and ready to go faster than I had expected. (I know this won't last for long, but I am going to enjoy this happy attitude as long as I can.) He couldn't wait to go to school, see old friends and make news ones. He asked me about 50 questions last night about what his teacher will have him do, and where he will be putting his stuff and where he will sit....etc. The bombardment of questions went on and on. And, of course, I had no answers for him. All I could say was, "You will have to wait till you get to school tomorrow."

Taryn was also up, dressed and ready to go to school. She was a bit heartbroken that she couldn't stay with Tyson at school. Ahhhhh. So cute. She loves her big brother and wants to do everything he does. The traffic was just as crazy this first day as it was last year, and so we decided that we had better leave our house 10 minutes earlier tomorrow. GEEZE! Oh well, the joys of living in a city.

On a side note, I finally finished my first class. YES! And I passed it with an A! I have never had a solid A in any college class, they were A-. I was thrilled. All the late nights of studying and worrying paid off. I now have one more class to take in the winter and then I can reinstate my teaching license and begin teaching again!

An Anchor?

So this is my conversation with Taryn the other day:
Taryn comes running into the kitchen while I am making lunch and says to me,
Taryn: Mom what is this in my mouth?
I looked inside her right cheek and found a little canker.
Me: It is a canker sweetheart. Don't mess with it and it will go away.
Taryn: An Anchor?
Me: No, a canker.
Taryn: Anchor?
Me: Canker
Taryn: Anchor!
By this time I am laughing so hard that I just let her go. Later on that day when Vaughn came home Taryn had the same conversation with him. We cannot get her to say canker. It is an Anchor. HA HA HA. Funny things kids say.

Tennessee Smokies Baseball

Our first Tennessee Smokies Baseball game. August 1st was LDS family night at the stadium and that meant we got a discount. WAHOO! Neither the kiddos or myself have been to a "real" baseball game other than a high school one. Even thought the Smokies are AA ball, it was still awesome to watch.

Taryn was more impressed to dance to all the various music being played and watch the mascots run around and goof off.

A family photo at the stadium. The kids saw these foam hands in the gift shop, and me being the softy that I am, bought them each one. I remember that my dad always bought me some kind of souvenir when we went to a circus or a zoo and I still have many of those souvenirs. They remind me of those precious times I had with my family experiencing all kinds of fun entertainment. I want my kids to have those same kind of memories.

Tyson enjoyed waving his "big hand" for the Smokies. Taryn enjoyed using hers as a BIG fan. It was quite hot during the first part of the game.

In between innings, the Smokies are warming up.

Towards the middle of the game we noticed other fans eating ice cream from these little baseball caps. My kids started to beg for this treat, and after about 3 more innings, we gave in. I must admit the ice cream was yummy and the little hat was cool as well. It was a good way to end the game. We had so much fun that we are headed back to another game soon.
