The Delivery

I meant to blog about this 4 weeks ago, but I am still working out the kinks of taking care of two kiddos instead of just one. Haven't quite got it down yet.

October 23rd.
I spent this last day before Taryn's arrival trying to clean my house before my mom came that evening. I got almost everything finished, but I spent a good part of the day playing with Tyson, just the two of us. I knew after this day, his world would be turned upside down and I wanted to have one more day just he and I. My mom's flight got into Metro at 9:00p.m. Vaughn and Tyson went down to get her. I couldn't handle the long 2 hour ride. I was so happy to have her here to help out and be a support to us. I didn't hardly sleep. I was too nervous, anxious and excited to sleep much. In fact, I was up before the alarm went off at 5 a.m.

October 24th.
Vaughn and I left the apartment around 5 :30. Mom and Tyson stayed behind and Vaughn would come and get them later on in the day to see the baby. We arrived at the hospital in Novi around 6:30a.m. and went in to get everything started. The hospital was just recently build and so everything was new and clean and nice. My room was big and the nursing staff were so kind. I was hooked up to the monitor, after putting on those lovely hospital gowns, and an IV was placed into my hand. (I hate needles, just so you know) Around 9a.m. the doctor came in with the anaesthesiologist and explained what was going to happen. I was scared to death. I don't really know why, but I just shook. They took Vaughn to get dressed for the OR and wheeled me down the hall to the OR. I was in the OR for 5 minutes with just the nurse and surgical tech while they set everything up. I got to see all the instruments they were going to use on me. That wasn't a good thing. I saw way to many sharp objects....my heart rate shot up and the nurse asked if I was ok? HA HA HA. (No I was not ok, I can see all the things that are sharp and pointy that are going to cut me open...)
A moment later the anaesthesiologist came in and talked to me about the epidural. I started to shake again. Luckily for me it went smoothly and I barely felt the needle go in my back. When my legs started to feel numb it was weird. I tried to will my legs and feet to move with no avail. Then they put up the blue sheet so I couldn't see anything, in came Vaughn and the doctors and the C-section began. I never felt a thing, but I kept asking Vaughn how it was going. They pulled Taryn out and she was huge. I was expecting a 6 pound baby and the nurse said, "8 pounds 8 ounces." WHOA!! No wonder I was so miserable the last month of pregnancy. As they started sewing me up I got really light headed and the room was spinning fast. I nearly blacked out and then they gave me something to stop the spinning and I fell asleep.
We still hadn't named her yet and we spent a better part of the day working on names. Vaughn drove up to get my mom and Tyson to see the baby. I cannot remember much of that Friday, it is all a blur. However, I do remember a lot of pain, medication and sickness......and.....being awakened the next morning at 4 a.m. to walk around. OUCH!!!! I do remember that hurt. Needless to say, the next 2 days were spent in the hospital, trying to walk again, taking lots of pain meds and wanting to get out of that room.
Saturday, the birth certificate lady came in bright and early to fill out the birth certificate. We still didn't have a definite name. So, I called Vaughn while he was in route to come and see me at the hospital and said, "What are we naming this child?" He came up with the name Taryn. I immediately loved it. So Taryn Jackson it was and she looks like a Taryn.
My mom stayed for 2 weeks to help with the recovery, and thank goodness she did. Recovering from a C-section is not easy, it is quite painful. It was so nice to have mom to help out with the house work and to keep Tyson entertained, and to take Taryn while I took a shower. Thanks mom!!! I owe you much much much!!!!

Just reading your story made me think about my c section. It is hard to recover. I see now why they say take it easy for 6 weeks. It really takes that long.
I got so sick while recovering from the epidural... I still remember that. I hope I forget by the time I have another baby.
Good luck with the two of them. They are both beautiful!

(Here comes the novel) Holy cow! Reading this was like de ja vu, except I was ready to backhand the hand IV person becasue it hurt so stinkin' bad AND I had the luxury of listening to the SCREAMING BLOODY MURDER lady in the next operating room over while I surveyed all the sharp pointy utensils, all alone because everyone available was attending to her!!!
I know it's weird, after reading your story and remembering it all over again, it made me sort of miss it!! I know, that's messed up!!
So glad to hear you made it through and if you need me to hold your hand through the management of 2 kids at a time, I'm here for ya doing the same thing!! It's funny that we think so much about just getting them here and then when they're here we go, ok how do I raise the darn thing? ...to be a contributing member of society?!!! Then comes the overwhelming responsibility of it all. Love and LOTS of patience my dear!! Luv ya!

I also had a c-section... mine wasn't planned though. The recovery is not fun... my best friend just had her 2nd baby and she's still adjusting to having 2 kiddo's as well... it's not been as smooth of a transition as she had hoped! :)
